Case Study: FDA Compliant Silicone Free Food Labeling System
The food service client needs
Our client is a well-known fast food chain that needed to update their current labeling system to ensure they met with new FDA guidelines. The food and safety regulation guidelines require restaurants and food chains to eliminate silicone from their food prep area to prevent contamination. The second concern our client expressed was the inefficiency of their current labeling system in its stores. These labels are commonly used on food trays to ensure quality control by displaying food expiration dates.
Our client's business requires their employees to interact with customers and communicate their order via a single point-of-sales (POS). The POS is also the interface for selecting and printing their current food labels as well. This caused delays in both their customer service and their necessary food prep throughout operating hours. They required a solution to the problem immediately to increase the efficiency and customer service of their individual locations.
Silicone Free Liner-less Labeling Solution
LabelPack Automation spoke with our client at length about their concerns. The solution developed by LabelPack Automation would solve the clients concerns for FDA regulations, as well as improve employee efficiency, and finally save the company approximately $500 annually in label costs per location.
LabelPack’s liner-less labeling system was developed using an 8” tablet and the Zebra LP 2824 Plus printer. The desktop printer from Zebra Technologies was chosen because of its compact footprint, ease of operation and media changeover as well as the service warranty offered by LabelPack Automation.
LabelPack is also providing our client with liner-less label stock to be used in their liner-less label system. Because the labels are liner-less, silicone is not present in the labels and complies with FDA requirements. Also, because liner-less labels are thinner than a roll of labels with the liner, there are approximately double the amount of labels per roll. Not only does that prevent employees from having to frequently change the stock in the printer, it also will save the client $500/annually in labelling supplies per restaurant location.
This system, designed and built by LabelPack Automation, would be a great fit in any small- to medium-sized business in the food industry. It allows your employees to easily print liner-less labels that meet FDA guidelines and does not interfere with your day-to-day customer service. Overall, you will receive double the amount of labels per roll, save money in label stock, and the system can pay for itself within a year after installation.
